Green City Alliance

Providing low-e glass options around the world

The Green City Alliance is a partnership between Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG glass) and international glass producers, developed to bring advanced low-emissivity (low-e) glass options to more regions around the globe.

As the global gateway to Solarban® glass technology and supply, Green City Alliance gives architects and build teams access to locally manufactured energy efficient Solarban® solar control low-e glass products—and offers oversized glass capabilities.

For the Green City Alliance, Solarban® glass is processed through members of the International Vitro Certified™ Fabricator Program. These glasses utilize Vitro’s licensed soft-coat (MSVD) technology and meet strict quality standards. Architectural and technical support is available in the United States and around the world.

Jingjin Group & Tecnoglass: Partners in Sustainability

Through the Green City Alliance, specific Solarban® glasses are produced under license by JinJing Group Co. LTD in Beijing, China, and by Tecnoglass S.A. in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Since 2003, Vitro Architectural Glass and Jinjing Group Co., Ltd. have been working together to bring world-class manufacturing in float glass to China. Using Vitro Glass’s float technology, Jinjing became the first company in China to master ultra-clear glass manufacturing in 2005. Eight years later, Jinjing opened their Beijing facility, again using Vitro technology to produce Solarban® triple-silver low-e glass. This state-of-the-art facility is providing post-temperable low-e coated glass up to 12mm (1/2”) in thickness and can produce a maximum glass size of 3.3 x 6.0 meters (130” x 236”) in accordance with Vitro Glass specifications.

As a glass fabricator, Tecnoglass has continued to upgrade and expand their processing capabilities. Their commitment to quality led them to become the first member of International Vitro Certified™ Fabricator Program  in 2007. Continuing to lead the way, Tecnoglass is also the first glass processor in the Americas to use the new Air Flotation technology to heat-treat glass. This new approach, called TecnoAir, practically eliminates the roller wave distortion that can occur with traditional furnace operations.

Tecnoglass has also expanded their capabilities to include bending glass. TecnoBend technology allows for high performance Solarban® glasses to be curved and offers a single-source warranty.
